How
Gibbs Paint & Body Started
Robert Gibbs started his business in 1973 with the name
Gibbs Rebuilders. He had been the automotive manager at Kmart for many
years and finally decided to take a leap of faith and start his own
business. The idea was to buy damaged vehicles and make repairs to them
so they could be resold at a discounted price to the buyer. The
company started out with one employee, Robert himself, and it continued
to grow. Eventually, the company began doing more repair work to
vehicles involved in accidents than the cars for resale due to word of
mouth and customer service. That is when the name was changed to Gibbs
Paint & Body. Since that time, the company has grown in services and
size to offer customers one of the best collision repairs in Abilene.
Glen Gibbs, Robert's son, has been working for the company since he
could push a broom and has been involved in every aspect of the
business. The most important thing that Glen tries to do is handle each
customer with integrity and build the safety integrity back into each
vehicle Glen treats each job as if it was his own car, so that he would
not be afraid to put his own family in it.
